Fail to service providing

(Querist) 15 March 2014 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir

We have taken single premium Reliance Life policy. The agent played mischief and registered as regular term policy for his selfish motive of earning more commission.

Now the policy is registered as regular policy where we had to pay minimum 3year premium, unknown to us.

When inquired with Reliance Insurance after 3 years the value of our policies, they replied that they are lapsed as we did not pay the premiums.

When we asked the why we were not send premium notices if they were registered as regular policies? why their agents or office did not give us a single call for paying premiums? at lest they should hav given us notice of lapse, which they failed to do.

Now they are not responding and are telling us that if we want our money back we shell get after deducting 25% of the value.

Can U help us or guide us what to do? We are both senior citizens and Ombudsmen wrote to us that they can not take our complain.

I know that they can be sued for failing to provide service for which they are penalizing us for deduction in the value of our polices.

I sincerely await some response. My email address is tarunsheth@yahoo.com and my mobile # is 9322212909. Personal contact is also welcome.

Thanking You
Tarun Sheth

It is better to refer terms and conditions of the policy.

If you feel aggrieved, then there is no harm in lodging complaint in consumer forum.

If the policy and the proposal form is in accordance as told by them you have less chance to succeed. In such a condition you have no other alternate but to accept what is being provided.

Some time such instances have to be accepted.

When did you come to know about the said mischief?, On completion of the policy, you would have received the policy bond, have you not seen the preamble of the policy in which entire details like, policy number, name, nominee's name, date of commencement, date of maturity, plan and premium paying term, benefits (maturity and death) and many more details printed on the face of the policy document?, Could you not find the discrepancy of what was told to you and what has been incorporated in it?, now it will be too late to make any claim about it, however, approach the consumer forum to see if you would get any relief on the basis of your innocence.
