What are the steps from complaint to court case?

What are the steps if compaint given to police on 498a etc.
Police registered the FIR and fowarded to court.

Can experts guide the sequence step-wise?

1. Depends on your state, each state has a different practice and convention as per their police standing orders as well as high Court judgments.

2. Normally now as per the current trend in view of heavy misuse of this law in the past - before registration of FIR conciliation is attempted at - to see whether the complaint is genuine & whether an amicable solution can be found out.

If mediation fails then FIR is registered as a last resort.

3. Once FIR is registered formal investigation starts.

4. After investigation is done police files a closure/final report (in case no case made out) or chargesheet against the accused persons, on which court takes cognizance - frames charges or discharges - and proceeds with teh trial - ultiamtely resulting in acquittal or conviction.
