Advertisement to promote advocate

Whether an advocate is permitted to advertise for promoting himself as per India law?

An advocate shall not solicit work or advertise, either directly or indirectly, whether by circulars, advertisements, touts, personal communications, interviews not warranted by personal relations, furnishing or inspiring newspaper comments or producing his photographs to be published in connection with cases in which he has been engaged or concerned.

That this Rule will not stand in the way of advocates furnishing website information as prescribed in the Schedule under intimation to and as approved by the Bar Council of India. Any additional other input in the particulars than approved by the Bar Council of India will be deemed to be violation of Rule 36 and such advocates are liable to be proceeded with misconduct under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961

Many web sites are there by advocates all over India giving the above regulations on the initial page that is all.

Advocates cannot advertise for promoting himself in India.
It is not a business, it is a noble Profession.

Advocate cannot advertise himself soliciting works. But several additional data were seen in Yellow Pages directory, describing advocates.

In fact, for the sake of transparency, there is a dire need of making proper modification in the Advocates Act and Rules in the wake of advancement of information technology.

Of course advertisements by advocates are not preferred, but introduction in general should be allowed in individual's or firms' websites, like the address particulars, qualifications and the types of cases that the advocate or the firm of advocates deal with.
