Indexation on ltcg on property sale

sir,
i purchased a property in 2000 and selling it off in 2025. can i claim indexation or not?

Yes you can very well claim the benefits accordingly.

thank you very much sir. This doubt has been told by my CA that beginning from FY2025-26, the indexation benefit has been totally removed even for properties purchased prior to 2001 and sold after April 1, 2025. thanks for confirming that the indexation is still availabe. Regards.

The indexation benefit has been removed for most assets. For land and building sold after July 23, 2024, the tax rate is 12.5% without indexation. If acquired before that date, taxpayers can choose between 12.5% without indexation or 20% with indexation.

Though the law requires investment to be made in one residential house property in India but there is a one-time exception where you can invest the capital gains arising from the sale of one residential house in two separate residential houses provided the amount of long-term capital gains does not exceed Rs. 2 crores.
