is it mandatory to file vakalatnama for a criminal case in west bengal. Case is in lower court

Yes,mandatory.

Advocate vakalatnama is required for criminal case any where in India.

No vakalatnama required nor you require to hire an advocate.

But if you want that your case should be represented by a lawyer, he require an authority from you. That is known as Vakalatnama.
