Mr. Ashok Kumar,

Is not your advice, "Please be courteous while writing a mail to strangers, do not be curt" strange when are seeking advice for you but prefer to advisee those from whom you expect advice?

In fact, your query is purely an academic query in the absence of the description of the real problem, if there is any.

Reply to any academic query normally tends to cause several supplementary unnecessary questions. That is why experts do not prefer to reply academic queries.

So, better discuss your real problem.

You can declare the value of the items to be carried with you and pay he customs duty, if any, imposed and proceed with your journey ahead. Dont pretend as if you are going for the first time out of the country and you never carried any valuable items from her to your relatives pace abroad. the airport customs will make you aware of the stamp duty and other rules if you really dont know anything about it.

Ashok Kumar ji,

Thanks for your response. About your clarification, "sometimes this hurts the feelings and particulary senior citizen like me," I feel it proper to make you aware that nobody guesses the age of the querist unless his picture appears along with the query or some expert tries to go through the profile of the querist, provided some description is available. In almost all the query cases, nobody goes through profile of the querist. Only in rare cases the experts try to see the profile of the querist that too when they get any doubt about his being some imposter of coming with some fake query.

So, it is quite difficult for the experts to know the age of the querist. They are concered only with the contents, if convincing. You can find the experts quite helpful, provided you give adequate facts at the very first instance. Nobody likes to waste time in putting questions to get appropriate feedback. Even othewise also, no facts or partial facts may become cause of confusion for the querist himself, when variety of replies are given merely on presumption basis.

Now since you have provided some information Shri Kalaiselvan has replied your query. Clear description attracts clear opinions or advice.

In addition I may inform you that your case falls within the purview of the US Customs, where the goods are liable to be taxed. So, better ask your kith & kin there to enquire from the concerned department before taking the wares with you, so that there may not abe any chance of confiscation of the articles.
