I want to know how the sentence "Will practice law at the Bar" be itnterpreted.

Is it that the person will give an assurance that he will practice law in future

OR

Should he be a practicing Advocate
ajay sethi (Expert) 28 October 2011
it means that advocate shall be carrying on preactice of law
prabhakar singh (Expert) 28 October 2011
A BAR is collective name of lawyers practicing at place where courts are presiding which is collectively called BENCH.

Keeping two aforesaid things in mind now can you easily understand the meaning of your phrase "Will practice law at the Bar" ,which simply convey that one assures that he will practice law as one's profession at Bar.

The phrase would get destroyed if the alternate suggested by you is understood to be meant by it.

Literal meaning of Bar is " group of Barrister or Advocate".

Bar in a legal context has three possible meanings: (1) the division (as a BAR) of a courtroom between its working and public areas; (2) the process of qualifying to practice law; and (3) the legal profession.

The origin of the term bar is from the “barring furniture dividing a medieval European courtroom,” similarly as the origin of the term bank for the location of financial transactions in medieval Europe.

According to Black's Law Dictionary (Eighth Ed., 2004), the area “behind the bar” is open to the public. According to “The Oxford companion to law, “This restriction is enforced in nearly all courts. In most courts, the bar is represented by a physical partition: a RAILING or BARRIER that serves as a bar.”

Agreed with Ld. Mr. Makkad and elaboration of Ld. Prabhakar Singh.
