Rating system

This query is : Resolved
I understand that LCI has introduced a Rating System, enabling the querist to rate the quality of the answer provided. The rating seems to be 1 for poor, 2 for fair, 3 for good and 4 for very good etc.
This rating is done by the querist based on his satisfaction of the answer.
But, I am told that such a rating given is visible only to the original querist.
It would be desirable that such a Rating is made generally visible to everybody. In that case, the quality of the answer will improve tremendously and consequently, the quality of the site will also get enhanced.

I strongly recommend the suggestion of Shri Ramachandran. There must be transparency in the rating system.
Besides the querist, the expert must also be able to know where does he stand, so far his knowledge, concept and understanding about the problem of the querist and solution provided by him.

If the rating is going to be given only for four answers, how about the others.
Those who get good scores will get more enthusiasm.
Those who get lesser scores, may get demotivated, may get offended too.
Some of our experts may take it sportive.
At the same time some of our experts may get discouraged.
My opinion is let the scoring in any form be abolished.
Or else there may be choice given to the experts, whether to participate in the scoring system. By this the expert can give his opinion, but will not get any scores.

One thing I understand is that the author may not necessarily judge the answer given by us.
Even a good answer may not be satisfactory to the author of the query.

I have now only one view that any kind of scoring or rating or even trialing or serial ling should be avoided. It is better not to have competition than to have any unhealthy.

I fully support the views of Arunagiri and Prabhakar Singh. Enough is enough. There is no need now to stand with the scoring system and create unhealthy atmosphere and competitiveness. This site may prove a social assistance only if experts are treated at par and thus scoring is scrapped.

I also second, there is no need for a rating system, people contribute on their own free will and not for some ratings.

Since the announcement about a new answer to my above post by Mr. Shonee Kapoor appeared in my regular email account, I visited this url.
Initially, besides the query, only all the answers appeared.
But, when I wanted to answer the point raised by Mr. Arunagiri, and started to click reply, the screen showed the item:
Rate Now:" against all the answers. (Please see the attachment)
Since all of us are in the Answering category, we are not able to really confirm or deny whether LCI has introduced such a scoring system and if so how it operates. It is also not clear why the LCI Administration has not announced such a provision so far. That's what primarily I was wanting to know in my above post.
But, fortunately, since my above general post also falls under the category of "Query", whatever comments that has been posted by experts became visible to me (as a querist) and I am able to see the Rating Requirement. AS AN EXPERIMENT, I HAVE GIVEN RATING AS 5 (Excellent) TO ALL. Immediately after giving that rating, 5 Stars appears along with a message “Thanks for Rating”. LET ME SEE WHETHER IT IS VISIBLE TO EVERYBODY. IF NOT, I AM AFRAID, A PERSON WHO IS NOT A QUERIST MAY NOT EVEN KNOW THAT SUCH A RATING TAKES PLACE! What purpose it would serve? That is the precise additional point which I was asking in my post.
However, As regards the query of Mr. Arunagiri "If the rating is going to be given only for four answers, how about the others" , it has to be stated that the querist has the choice of (i) rating or not rating (ii) to rate only a few answers and leave the rest without rating (iii) rate all the answers. There is no restriction to rate only 5 answers. But only the range of ranking is restricted to 5 starting from poor, fair, good, very good and excellent. It is quite possible, as I have now done, one may rank all the answers as Excellent.

"LET ME SEE WHETHER IT IS VISIBLE TO EVERYBODY. IF NOT, I AM AFRAID, A PERSON WHO IS NOT A QUERIST MAY NOT EVEN KNOW THAT SUCH A RATING TAKES PLACE! "
i agree with this concern of Mr.R.Ramachandran.I am not seeing any thing
as shown by you in the screen shot.
Administration should do such things with intimation and knowledge of all.
The quality of answers can be improved only by dropping the point system.
If one is being rated behind one's back, more particularly by a questioner, who does not even ably frame his own question,i find it irritating, unless the site is visualizing some commercial utility thereof but that is again objectionable to me.
So far i had only one understanding that an answer given by expert earns one point to him for which a race goes on.To admit frankly i was not in this race when i began
but after having entered in a TOP TEN WANTED LIST I am struggling to remain DAUD**.This situation i see with every body barring you,one admits or not is another matter. Then I attend queries with deep sincerity and after posting 5 to 10 a race is realized, to coup with that,a bundle of reckless
agreements starts is a fare admission/confession on my part.
**a lump or chunk of something

If at all there is any rating system it should not be done by the querist, who may be a layman, and may not be satisfied with an expected favouable answer. If there is any such rating, that must be done by the administrator, transparent to all. I feel such rating is unwarranted, which may create unnecessary disputes among the members.

I should appreciate the good intention of Mr.R.Ramachandran, he is having the mentality of not hurting anybody, so, he ranked everybody / so many as excellent.
At the same time the purpose of introducing the ranking system by LCI is defeated.
That's I would like to say the ranking system / scoring system can be abolished.
