Though the words are used interchangably. Notice is in civil cases, summons are in criminal cases.
Effect is the same. Non-observance of summons can lead to warrants, and non-observance of Notice can lead to case proceedings ex-parte.

In NI Act related case, U receive summons but not notices from the court.hence U R not clear in UR expression. Anyway better attend the court on the stipulated date and request that U would like to appoint a lawyer and the same will be considered by the court.By the time of the next hearing engage a good lawyer well versed in NI ACT.

Dear Sir,
We talked to the other party for settlement and they are saying if we not appear to court on that day it will be ok they will extend date. Is it right to be absent on that day as party is saying they will extend date by saying we will entering into settlement. Is it possible to extend date on the ground of settlement by other party.

No. Present your Self in Court along with your Advocate.Other Wise You are Taking Risk and Warrants Even NBW could Be Issued.Let the Other Side State in the Court We are in For Compromise and Either Take a Long Date Or With Draw the Case.Be Present Positively.

U attend the court, the court would ask U whether U will engage the services of an advocate, say yes,U will be given time. Next attend along with UR advocate. If possible for for a compromise or fight the case on merits.

This notice is called summon and you will not get anything separately than this, if you do not appear before the court on the date specified, arrest warrant may be issued against you. Better take the help of some good lawyer and attend the court on the date of hearing.

Don't rely on the words of the complainant,U may land into further trouble. If U want to go fora settlement, better do it before the first hearing,or else attend as adviced.
