What is Mutation ? Why and when is it required ?

mutation means transfer of revenue entries relating to lands and other immovable properties. it arises on the death of the owner of the same and his legal heirs can claim mutation of those entries to their name.otherwise when there is transfer of property by sale or gift or exchange,the transferee is entitled to claim such mutation to his name.

Mutation is the process of change of an existing name in the register of the local authorities like Land dept. Municipality etc.
This is necessitated because of change in ownership whether by succession, gift, sale etc.
