Before asking any query through RTI, I would sugget you visit the bank branch concerned and make an enquiry. Thereafter proceed.

If the Bank is nationalsed one then RTI applies. But bear mind one thing that RTI is not a tool to gather information from no where. For the information you wish to know, you have to provide the necessary information as asked by the bank.

In practice, all such inoperative and dormant accounts gets extinguished if the balances are paltry due to half yearly debit of incidental charges. But if the account had sizeable balance at the time of last operation, banks generally transfer the amount to Unclaimed Balances account maintained at their respective central offices. On receipt of claim papers, they are processed and settled to the legal heirs. Information with regard RTI should not overrule or nullify the concept of Account secrecy which is one of the primary responsibilities of a bank under statutory procedures. Banks can never just disclose account information to any third party other than the account holder. Please meet the branch manager and take up further.
