What is cantonment board?

(Querist) 13 October 2010 This query is : Resolved
What is the main difference between Muncipal Corporation, Nagar Palika & Cantonment Board?
R.Ramachandran (Expert) 13 October 2010
All are Local Bodies (Civic Bodies) - that is having particular demarcated area and administering the area.
For instance in Delhi we have New Delhi Municipal Corporation; Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Cantonment Board.
All have their own respective geographical areas under them. They have elected representatives to administer that area.
Similarly, there are certain geographical area - mostly having military establishments - Called Cantonment area - where private properties are also situated - which is administered by a separate body called Cantonment Board. For this board also representatives are getting elected from the residents of the cantonment area.
Nagar palika is a Hindi Word meaning Municipal Corporation.
The Municipalities etc., are mainly in Cities in Towns, while Panchayat Board, Panchayat Union etc., are local bodies at village levels.

Muncipal Corporation or Nagar Palika- are the same in a town as local body.
Cantonment Board- the area under the Army unit(military establishments),which is administered/ managed by them as a separate body.
