LEGAL WAY TO PROTEST

(Querist) 08 July 2011 This query is : Resolved
Respected seniors please, is there any guidelines of bar council or SC for the "Protest by lawyers/ strike"?

In what manner bar association should show their protest on a genuine issue, while Supreme court says lawyers can't go on strike.

One day token strike.

strike has no meaning and results. The power of advocates have diminished with passage of time since due to faulty election system once the office bearers are elected they look after their own interests.

Strike by lawyer, would derail the interest of his client on that day; that should not happen. His prime duty is to honestly protect the interest of his client. After the court-hours, advocates may have demonstrations outside the court premises, if the causes so warranted.

Protests and demonstrations and strikes are the democratic ways of expressing citizens grievances in a democracy. Lawyers are also citizens who are entitled to express their grievances in a peaceful and democratic manner. I am not aware if there are any rules or guidelines on this issue in the Bar Association Rules. u may check.
