The lawyer has taken the property deed from me since i couldn't pay any cash as fees when I asked for his services.I am out on bail. Now he is asking for unreasonable amount to return the deed. How do i know what exactly was the amount asked as cash surety for my bail?

You and your advocate sit together and settle the matter amicably. Don not go for the advice from other lawyers. The charging of fees will be different from advocates to advocates.

This sounds to me a criminal act if your allegation is true.
Go to the Bar Council and Police for relief.
Nobody has any right put anyone at ransom.

What do you mean by "How do i know what exactly was the amount asked as cash surety for my bail?".

ask from concerned court about amount of
surety .

Amount of surety can be requested from the concerned court. Professional charges differ from Advocate to Advocate.

Let me make the question clearer.
I was arrested by police for the theft of a laptop. Actually it was a total misunderstanding but by the time it was cleared the ladies pg (where i was staying)owner had police involved and they pied up all the unsolved laptop cases on my head. I am a teacher and was so overwhelmed at the situation i asked a police constable to get me a lawyer because they had already taken my phone and all my friends' numbers.
The police got me a lawyer who was the greediest and stupidest person i have ever set my eyes on. Since i didnt have any money at athat time he took the original deed of my property telling he will get a bail asap.
It seems i got bail the next day but was asked to pay a cash surety. He came to visit me in jail to ask whether i could get 40k from someone and then he will pay surety and get me out. i had no means to do that and he left letting me rot in the central prison for 31 days. I had to write to my cousins in Kerala in a jail-issue post card to get help. In this thirty one days i tried to contact the lawyer several times but of no avail. At last he took 15k as cash from my cousins and i got out on 16th half dead . I asked the lawyer for the deed back and he still tells i got to pay up 50k to get it back. What do i do now?
