if there is a rule to keep the original documents in side the vehicle, you should obey it and if those documents are stolen, you may apply for a duplicate copy from the registering authority.

You have to obey the traffic rules. If you dont want that rule, challenge it by a writ PIL.

Method to know is quite simple. Send application under RTI to the PIO of the traffic Department to get a very authenticated and certified reply to your question.

Your question is,
Is it compulsory to keep the vehicle’s original papers inside the concern vehicle?
What if they are stolen?
yes, you may apply for a duplicate copy from the registering authority.
In India every motor vehicle owner must keep original papers inside the concern vehicle.

But as per the Central Motor Vehicles Act,1988 section 130. Duty to produce licence and certificate of registration.
(4) If the licence referred to in sub-section (2) or the certificates or
permit referred to in sub-section (3), as the case may be, are not at the time in the possession of the person to whom demand is made, it shall be a sufficient
compliance with this section if such person produces the licence or
certificates or permit within such period in such manner as the Central
Government may prescribe, to the police officer or authority making the
demand :
It is observed that if you dont have any certificates with you while driving, you have option to submit them within 15 days of demand by officers.

Basavraj ji,Thank you very much for your additional information. These days, your papers don't get stolen, but your whole vehicle is stolen so,if the original papers are kept at residence, you can always launch the police complaint reffering the original set of the documents....Anyway thanks again for the useful information, sir.
