I have been living in a rented house for the past one and a half year. Though the rooms are good the problem is the owner and her behavior. The landlady resorts to verbal abuse at the drop of a hat and if I fight back she threatens to deploy goons to thrash me up. She bangs the door late at night and early in the morning and is making life hell for me. Since I told her that I am leaving, her verbal outbursts have become worse. I told her that I am leaving at the earliest because I'm fed up with her behavior. Now she wants me to stay and pay for another month (October) so that she can find new tenant. I refused and she is threatening to lay local goons on me.
What recourse do I have?
The landlady has a behavior problem. She abuses almost all of her neighbors. And tenants who dare disobey her are her worst victims. She lets out her rooms illegally. She has four rooms tenanted(to different tenants)in total. She does not issue rent receipts and did not make leave-license agreement even though I insisted very much on it.

well such problem often prop up in landlord-tenant relationship.
If you had to continue with tenancy we would have adviced you differently.
Since you intend to leave early then you may report the matter to police as a preventive measure but mind it may not solve the problem instantly, you will have to have some support from the neighbors also.
In order to teach her a lesson, send a few anonymous complaints to the Municipal Authorities and the Income Tax authorities making all set of allegations which can put her in legal trouble.

I also agree with the advice of Shri Kiran Kumar. Diversion of her attention on other matters is necessary for you to get relief from her abuses.
