(Querist) 11 October 2014 This query is : Resolved
hello,
i wanted to apply for passport, all my certificates and liscence, aadhar card have my full name BUSSU VIVEK...but my name in birth certificate is B.VIVEK will my passport get rejected?? or should i get my name changed in birth certificate first and then apply for passport

Deepak Nair (Expert) 11 October 2014
First you approach the Passport authority and ask for their requirement. Explain them in detail. there are many way outs.

They may ask you to get your name rectified through publishing in the official gazette of your state. And also to affirm an affidavit to that effect.

You cannot get your name changed in your birth certificate which is already issued. Instead, you can attach the copy of gazette along with your birth certificate to prove the change/rectification in name.

visit the passport office . you should not face problem since in your aadhaar card , educational certificates your full name is mentioned . you can file an affidavit if necessary that both are the same person .

You may:

1. Mention that this was your childhood name. You can use the Column 2.2: Are you known by any other names (aliases)

- Read the instructions on instruction portion of passport form.

2. If you wish you can submit affidavit as per annexure E and with this you should note the instructions:
Note: In case of change of name, applicant should insert advertisements in two reputed newspapers (one local newspaper of the area in which he/she is residing and 2nd in newspaper of the area of permanent address) and submit original newspapers at the time of applying for passport in his/her new name.

3. You can approach the Municipal Authorities to correct the name. Fulfil their formalities and proceed.

Dear Vivek,
In the fact situation revealed by you, there will absolutely be no problem for you in getting the passport.

Please note, while giving the name in the passport, there is column for first name, middle name and last name/surname.

Naturally you will fill up in the first name BUSSU (Instead of the initial B. which is available in your birth certificate).
