Criminal Complaint

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 29 January 2010 This query is : Resolved
Can anybody please enlighten, if an F.I.R. is not signed by the complainant at the time of complaint, is it valid F.I.R.?
B K Raghavendra Rao (Expert) 29 January 2010

F.I.R. is prepared by the police authorities based on the complaint of the complainant. The complainant shall sign or affix thumb impression (if illiterate) to the complaint and not to the FIR. FIR contains details of the complaint.

It is not necessary to be signed by the complainant, it is prepared by the police.
