Govt. Acquired Land of my Parents

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 06 November 2009 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

I am the only son for my parents. I have 2 sisters who got married in 1997 & 1999.

My Father died on Oct'98 and my mother is living with my elder sister at my native place. My younger sister is living in gulf.

My father purchased a piece of land (Residential Plot)at Sriperumbadur in 1990 and ther property is registered in favour of my Mother and Late Father (Jointly). This property has been acquired by Govt recently.

Please let me know how the sale proceeds to be divided among us (considering my father's and mother's share separately)

If the land has been acquired by govt, then the compensation amount shall be paid and not sale proceeds.

You have not mentioned to which religion you belong?

Anyhow, I treat you as Hindus. Your mother is already co-sharer of 1/2 share and all legal heirs of your father means you, your mother, both your sisters shall become co-sharers of equal share in the 1/2 share of property left by your father.

I agree with Makkad Sir.

Your mother being original co-owner will get 1/2 of the compensation.

The remaininh half compensation shall be shared equally by you, your mother and two sisters.
