How to get a film renamed

(Querist) 09 December 2010 This query is : Resolved
A Tamil film titled "Sidhu +2 I Attempt" is slated to release shortly. The title conveys a negative impression on the minds of especially boys who are having this name who are due to write Std XII exams in March. In other words, mocking and teasing of hundreds of boys who are christened with this name like Sidarth, Siddu, etc are at the receiving end and feel psychologically demoralized and depressed.

In the interest of such students, under what legal provisions this aspect is brought to the court and get orders for change of name of this film. Though this query must appear trivial to many, I feel there is some substance in it for the benefit of number of boys who got this name (Sidhu) by default from their parents.

Experts to guide.

What name can be given to the movie? For every name there will be a claimant. The best thing is to keep some strange name to avoid this kind of problem. In one movie Director Balu Mahendra gave a dog in that movie the name Supramani. I hope Mr.Loganathan would remember it well. Just ignore all these.

I think I need to expand my query in brief:
1. It is not the question of claimants for the name for this movie.

2. Many Boys named as Sidhu (common in Tamil Nadu these days after the cricket exploits of Navjot Singh Sidhu) are teased and mocked by this title by their own class-mates. I was even a witness to a hot confrontation and fighting between the boys who got emotional. That is why, I found that the main cause for trouble is the name of the film

Though the matter appears trivial as I had already stated, I want to know the procedure to refer such aspects to Court praying for change of name for such callous attitude of Film Directors who sees only commercial values for such catchy titles. At least in future, it can be avoided.

If you are so very particular about proceeding against them, you have to file a suit for permanent injunction and mandatory injunction to change the name of the movie against the producers. Do it in the High Court itself in Chennai. But chances of getting injunction order against the release of the movie is quite remote.

YOU MAY FILE A WRIT PETITION TO THE HIGH COURT FOR APPROPRIATE WRIT.OF COURSE YOU MAY GET THE DRAFTING FROM LEGAL EXPERTS AS STRONG ARGUMENTS AND NECESSARY PARTIES ARE TAKEN CARE OF PLEASE NOTE.GOOD LUCK.

I agree with Mr.subramanian.

My intention is not to stall release of film but to make the producer change of title. That's it. Hence Injunction is not necessary as opined by experts.
