Legal metrology act - registration requirement

We would like to have a clarification on the registration requirement under the Legal metro logy act. We are into distribution business and we are purchasing certain product like Blood pressure monitoring, thermometer & weighing machines from Importer in India and resell to sub-distributors In India across certain regions. The Importer has all requisite licenses & also takes care of MRP labelling guidelines. Should we need to apply the licenses for dealing these products?

If dealing with packaged materials, a distributor has to register under Legal Metrology Act.

Section 19 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 provides that an importer of the weights or measures should register under the Act.It does not require a dealer or distributor or re seller to register under the Act. However section 17 requires the dealers to maintain prescribed records and registers and produce them for inspection whenever required by the officers appointed under the Act
if however your business involves repacking of the goods for distribution or sale you have to register with the Director and pay a fees of Rs.500/-
