Generally passenger car owners use to have tinted glass or dark film to avoid visibility. under which law the same is prohibited and what maximum punishment is provided under the law.

There is no general law in this regard though some States have imposed certain restrictions in using such tinted glass for the security reasons. As in West Bengal the govt has passes notification for visibility of such glass must be 60%.

ok, if it is more than 60% then what. my concern is that in most of the crimes cars with dark glasses are used. if there is clear cut restriction/ban on using tinted/dark fil, at least some crime may be avoided. for example rape in car, abduction etc.

Use of dark, black or reflective glasses in vehicles is not permitted as per law. As provided in Rule 100 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, the glass of windscreen and rear window of motor vehicles should have a visibility of at least 70% and that of side windows a minimum visibility of 50%.
