One time meter installation charges

(Querist) 13 June 2023 This query is : Resolved
Hi all,

I'm a tenant and live in Noida in a gated society, and recently, new meters have been installed. The one-time meter charges are to be paid in 12 equal instalments, deducted from the electricity balance I recharged.

When I raised this with my landlord, he said these consumable charges need to be paid by me. Is it so?

When the apartment is owned by him and the meter is in this name, how am I supposed to pay for these charges?

Please help me here. If anybody needs more clarity, I will be here to provide it.

What do your society's bylaws say about this? You have to pay the charges as you are using electricity for your flat.

In my understanding it is the landlord who has to bear the expenses for installing the new meter. The tenant could only be fastened with the charges for the electricity consumed.

The electricity meter installation charges are to be borne by the landlord and not by tenant.
You can refuse to pay it.

@P. Venu and T. Kalaiselvan: Thank you, I will confirm with my society's tenant group and talk to my landlord.

Installation charges for new meter is to be borne by landlord.
If tenant do not agree or object to pay for new meter, although adjustable in bill for electricity consumed by tenant, the tenant cannot be forced to pay.
