partition means division in the properties according to the law. A member of the family can seek his share in the joint family property. What ever the family members get their each share from the joint family property it is known as partition in the family.

Partition of whole of the joint family property into shares (parts/pieces) accoriding to Succession Act and allotment of such shares among the Co-Parcenors of a Joint Family is known as Partition.
