Only partnership, Company or LLP needs registration under relevant Acts.
Proprietary business needs no registration except compliance of local Rules and regulations.

It is not required to be registered under any law.

The law does not require except that you may be asked to register under shop registration Act.
How ever it does not mean you can not fulfill your wish.Simply draft a deed stating that you have formed a firm in your proprietorship under name and style so and to to carry businesses you may choose suitable from time to time on such places as you find suitable for your self.get it witnessed and present before registrar for registration,he shall charge registration fees and register it but do not show capital to be injected otherwise registrar may ask you to cough out stamp duty[though not payable legally as there is no kind of bilateral interest transfer is involved but it shall make out a bargain point for him].

I think Rukmani is not properly advised. However as advised by Mr. Devajyoti Barman and Mr. Prabhakar Singh, it is true that law does not require except that you may be asked to register under Shop Registration Act and compliance of local Rules and regulations and for the purpose of VAT.
But Indian Proprietorship Act 1908 is still in existence under which proprietorship firm may be registered for various reasons.
I am also willing to find the Offices of Registrar where such firm can be registered.

Yes you can form One person company under companies act, 2013 through which you can get legal status.
