navindaga (Querist) 02 April 2015
Kindly excuse as I'm nt well versed with the forum , hwevr i will explain my situation , the house where my relative who recently expired was a tenanted property where the rent was being paid in rent control by him. I being the sole inheritor am having to handle and take care of all matters. Since no papers are available as of now I'm not aware till when the rent has been paid so i need to know that and as i stay of station any online facility would be the easiest way for me. This is short is the basis of my both queries.

It would be better to consult a local lawyer.
prabhakar singh (Expert) 03 April 2015
Rent control laws and rules are governed by state legislations.
It is not clear of which state the matter is?

Secondly, even for buildings governed by rent control law, rent is to be paid to the landlord.
To me, it sounds strange that rent is to be deposited with rent controller unless there is some on going dispute between tenant and landlord and there is an order to deposit the same.

Best to consult a local lawyer.

thnks for ur relpies , ther is a ongoing dispute with the landlord where in all tenants including my deceased relative are depositing the rent in the rent control department. i am based in mumbai and my deceased relative was based in kolkata. m looking for a good lawyer who can help me. in the meantime i thought of seeking guidance of experts like you all so that i am a little educated when speaking to a lawyer.

Please get in touch of expert Mr. Barman whose name is third in serial at hall of fame of experts.A click on his name shall take you to his profile where his contact address would be available to you.He is from Kolkata and hopefully agreeable to your need.

As regards consulting a lawyer in Kolkatta, I do also suggest the name of Shri Barman. Though you are in Mumbai, you being the sole legal heir of the property situated in Kolkatta, should have some contact with the other tenants who are depositing rent in the Office of Rent Controller. Be in touch with them and acquaint yourself the procedure and the amount to be deposited etc. You are required to visit at least once and find out a friendly neighbour who will help you in these matters. There is no provision at yet for payment rent to the rent control office on line.
