Royality to iprs limited

(Querist) 06 February 2013 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir,

We have a Restaurant in Mumbai. In Restaurant we play music and also organise orchestra. We obtain a License from Phonographic Performance Limited ( "PPL") for the same. Now the other society namely Indian Performing Right Society Limited ( IPRS) raised the Bill of Rs. 3,00,000/- against the Restaurant for last 5 years for playing music and organising the Orchestra. What should we do? Should we be bound to pay IPRS even we obtained the License from PPL. Please guide.

Thanks & Regards,
Abdul Latif

Dear Abdul Latif Sahab
you should contacted a lawyer personally or contact over the phone, it's depend on the terms and condition of the contract if any.

No there is no contract between ourselves and IPRS Scoiety. This is a CopyRight matter for playing music and organising orchestra in restaurant. My question is we had obtain music license from PPL then why IPRS raised the bill to us.

You need not pay second time. You have made the necessary payments already.
Bring this to the notice of the society by sending a letter.

If you have not violated the patent of other society, you need not to pay and ignore its bill but if any violation has been made then settle the issue with mutual understanding.
