I would like to start a coaching institute inIndirapuram initially with a single faculty. Is it necessary to register the institute? If yes, what are the steps needed for registration?

Registration of coaching classes is not compulsary in all the states.
You have to get PAN card, professional tax registrations.
Since there is single faculty, PF & ESIC laws are hardly applicable.

You have to register the coaching institute under shop and establishment act. Take the help of the labour law practitioners.

in bihar registartion of coaching insitute is mandatory under the Bihar Coaching Institute (Control & Regulation) Act , 2010.
The Act, which made mandatory for all the institutes to furnish details like number of students enrolled, subjects being taught, faculty members engaged and the available infrastructure to cater to the needs of the students, etc and apply for registration, is now being implemented in letter and spirit. The coaching institutes will also have to provide the students a prospectus with course structure, fee structure, besides qualification and experience of the teachers.

"Commercial Training or Coaching Centre" means any institute or establishment providing commercial training or coaching for imparting skill or knowledge or lessons on any subject or field other than the sports, with or without issuance of a certificate and includes coaching or tutorial classes but does not include preschool coaching and training centre or any institute or establishment which issues any certificate or diploma or degree or any educational qualification recognised by law for the time being in force;
(Section 65(27) of the Finance Act, 1994)
“Taxable Service” means any service provided or to be provided to any person, by a commercial training or coaching centre in relation to commercial training or coaching;
(Section 65 (105) (zzc) of the Finance Act, 1994)
In view of above, now coaching centres are required to be registered under Shops and Commercial Establishment act of the particular State.

if its commercial purpose mean in tamilnadu its mandatory to register..

The coaching class is required to be registered in some states. But not every state asks for regsitration of coaching class.
