Transfer of home ownership within family - kolkatta

(Querist) 25 March 2013 This query is : Resolved
I bought a home in Kolkatta (in a NBCC project) on my sister-in-laws name since I was based out of India that time.

Now i am in India and i want to get the ownership transferred.

What will be the legal procedure for this since its within family? Can this transfer be done like a gift or something I read somewhere so that i do not have to incur extra charges.
Does it have to be freehold or leasehold? Since its NBCC, would it come under Kolkatta laws or Delhi law(where freehold is compulsory now)?

Thanks a lot. Since we are based out of Delhi, so the local lawyer of Delhi can get it done or do we have to go to Kolkata?

Thanks again.

You shall have to engage a lawyer of Kolkatta and if you require, his credentials can also be provided to you. You need to incur the stamp duty of gift deed.

Does that mean I will have to travel to kolkata or the same can be done while in delhi only if I get his credentials here in delhi itself?
