Used car and it's insurance

Can car insurance be issued in my name if the RC and car insurance expiring on 22.9.15 is in the name of the owner who resides in the State of Haryana. I live in Delhi. He sold his car to me by way of sale-affidavit. Please advise.

Continue the insurance also in the same name if the registration is not transferred. It is always better to get the registration transferred in the records of RTA. For the time being, you can renew the insurance in seller's name and later get the insurance policy transferred in your name after RC is transferred in your name. What made to purchase a car by sale affidavit instead of transfer of registration?

Did I make a mistake of buying a used car 2003 model by sale-affidavit ? I was told that cars registered in other States are sold by sale-affidavit if the buyer is a non-resident of that State.The liability of the seller ceases from the date of execution of the said affidavit and was told to get the car insurance in my name which I think is ridiculous if the RC is in the n/o the owner. In Delhi, I understand, is that the Transport Deptt. here do not re-register other states-registered vehicles. Being a senior citizen, perhaps, I may have been taken for a ride. This has left me quite confused.

You should have proceeded to get the name transferred in registration papers after purchase.

Try for renewal of insurance by submitting the sale affidavit.

Sale affidavit is help full for transferring all due and liability to purchaser from the date of execution.
