Weights and Measures Act

(Querist) 16 December 2010 This query is : Resolved
Dear All,

I have a query on W&M Act, is free size mentioned on socks wrong? Though free size is not a unit in Indian Standard Unit but in socks size is not mentioned. So request you to guide me on the law point here.
H.M.Patnaik (Expert) 16 December 2010
Hi Ritesh,
In the instant case "free size of Socks" refers to a size which is a size that fits into all adult persons , hence not numbered/ codified. This is a regular practice of this industry and well accepted by consumers over a long period of time and cannot be treated as violation of the W& M Act on the ground that this size does not fall under the list of Standard Units.

Exactly and that is what i am trying to reason with the authorities but they are not willing to understand, how to make them come to reason and if at all this matter goes to court then what should be my contention on legal ground
s.subramanian (Expert) 18 December 2010
I agree with Mr.Patnaik.The same defence you can adopt in the court also.
