The following are the kinds of writ petitions which can be filed before the high court under art.226 and before the supreme court under art 32 of the constitution of india. 1.Writ of Mandamus:- It is filed to seek a direction to the state when a public duty is not performed by the state i spite of representation by a citizen.
2.Writ of Certiorari:- It is filed to call for the records of the state in the impugned matter and quash the same on legal grounds. It is a judicial review of administrative action.
3. Writ of Habeas Corpus: It is filed when a person is detained illegally to seek his production before the court.
4.Writ of Quo Warranto:- It is filed questioning the legal competence of a person holding an office in the state when he suffers from some disqualification.
5.Writ of Prohibition:- It is filed when a subordinate court suffers from incapacity or disqualification to perform its judicial function on some valid grounds.
