buyer threatens of court case

hi my father was about to sell a house and token money was taken as well and a rough agreement was made. however later we changed the decision and decided not to sell this person because he had no money and was buying for his relative who wasnt introduced to us at the time of token money exchange. now we broke the deal and he is threatening us for legal court case. we are ready to return his token amount but hes not taking it back. what to do ?

Repeated query though ....

Have you executed any agreement to sell or have you executed any recipt with terms?

If no..then  he has to prove in court that he struck a deal and that will take decades with no yeild.

. But owing to your moral obligations you must honor the commitment and if that fails due to circumstances or non compliance with agreed terms then it is fine.

a rough agreement on a paper was done. no agreement on stamp papers was done while taking token money.

Had you mentioned in the agreement about payment terms ?
