Central Acts not in force

An unspecified number of Central Acts assented to by the President over the past 15 years have not been brought into force, the government acknowledged in Parliament.

‘Certain Central Acts have not so far been brought into force by the concerned administrative ministries,’ Law and Justice Minister M Veerappa Moily told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

Communist Party of India Member from Tamil Nadu D Raja wanted to know whether the government has failed to notify a number of Acts passed by Parliament since 1995 and assented to by the President.

Dr Moily replied that certain Central Acts have not so far been brought into force by the concerned administrative ministries for various administrative reasons and stage of preparedness.

As to details of such Acts, including the reasons for failure, the Minister said the information ‘is being collected.’
