CROP INS. ISSUE TAKEN TO SHRC

A petition has been filed before the State Human Rights Commission today, on the issue relating to allocation of crop insurance scheme funds for different districts in the State.

Mr Komireddy Krishna Vijay Azad, a farmer and Advocate of Metpally in Kareemnagar District, in his petition, prayed the SHRC to direct the State Government to make the allocations of crop insurance package proportionately to all Telangana farmers based on the loss accrued due to drought and floods, by canceling the allocations made by the Agriculture Minister Mr Raghuveera Reddy.

The petitioner contended, among other things, that the recent crop insurance amounts announced by the Agriculture department has resulted in 'human rights violation' on Telangana farmers. Against the total sanctioned amount of Rs.801 crores, ten districts of Telangana gost a meager amount of Rs.20 crores, while the Agriculture Minister's native district, Anantapur, got Rs.600 crores and former Chief Minister's district Kadapa got Rs.120 crores, he pointed out and added that this injustice justifies the demand for separate Telangana State. He also said that Telangana farmers, particularly of Karimnagar district, suffered more than Anantapur district, due to floods and famine coupled with power shortage.
