Cutting trees in own private property

What are the steps required to be able to cut trees in your own property? I hink that a permit from the Forest office is required. what actions can be taken against the person cutting trees in his own property without any sort of permit? and how?

thanks

why would u want to unnecessarily invite attention of authorities to something u can do without much fuss? if u contact municipal authorities they themselves would facilitate it for u without any trouble. Its all about offering a biting my dear friend. whether corporation or forest department they all want some butter and cheese.

no, actually i saw trees being cut down in a compound. I want to make sure that the person who did this is punished if he doesnt have required permits. In Orissa, you need permits to cut down specific trees. I was wondering what should be my course of action if these specific trees have been cut down in this case without a permit.  Cutting a tree myself would be the last thing I would do, I am all green.

in order to cut the trees in the schedule under the forest act must get permission from the forest department. (i.e sandal wood, red teek, oak etc)
