Fake profiles flourishing in matrimonial sites

‘Fake profiles rife on matrimonial websites’

Found a good match for your daughter in a matrimonial website or an impressive profile with all features you desire in your life partner? Chances are you might be taken for a ride with such flattering profiles turning out to be fake.

A family residing at Prakash Nagar, Begumpet were cheated in a similar fashion by one person who claimed to be a well-known Orthopaedic surgeon. In search of a suitable groom, Padmakarna, the girl's father was browsing through profiles in Bharat Matrimony and liked a profile (ID T-1498868)- Name: Dr Ragi Prasad, Profession: Orthopaedic surgeon.

The family then called up the person and sought his details. After a two-day telephone conversation, they invited him to visit their residence. The person then had an hour long discussion.

They enquired about Dr Ragi Prasad at the hospitals and came to know there was no doctor by that name. On trying his cell phone, it was switched off. Later, they lodged a complaint with Begumpet police who managed to catch him. He had been arrested earlier in a cheque theft case at MNJ Cancer Hospital. On investigation, it was found that Ragi Prasad was a class 12 dropout. He had practiced as duty doctor in more than 17 reputed hospitals by cheating. Interestingly, he was already married to two women and had five children. It also came to light that he tried setting up six other site members through the fake profile but was not successful.

Police said such activities were rampant and five out of 10 profiles in matrimonial sites were turning out to be fake. "It is not possible to verify each and every profile. Anyone could create a profile in a matrimonial site by just paying a nominal fee,'' an officer said

This is a common fraud/event, even in general so many compunders and other medical professionals have married by claiming themselves as doctor, to get the more dowry.
