Increasing useable dry terrace areas with grill or slabs

Our society has dry terraces - washing spaces, which are on alternate sides for flats one above the other.  As such each dry terrace has a ceiling double the height. Many residents are  covering the open height space of the the flat below with grills or slabs thus  creating extra useable storage space for their flats!  this also blocks the light and air of the flat below. Other want to imitate this extra space availble to these people by taking up the lobby space for shoe closets. Is this correct ? To me it is encroaching common space What can be done to stop these people?

Dear Seema,

Generally flat owners everywhere try to take extra space which are available to them. But very few people think of avoiding it. Since you want to get it stop then you have to send a letter to the office bearers of the society to ask the flat owners to refrain from doing so and remove the illegal structures constructed by them.

If the Society Office Bearers fails to look into this then you have an option to complaint the same to the Local Municipal Ward Office at your place. They shall come to your Society and demolish the same. But this shall spoil your relationship with the Society Members. So think about it before complaining with the Society Office Bearers or Municipal Authorities.

All the Best.

Regards,
