Is demanding wife's salary punishable?

My sister's husband is demanding her salary. Initially he agreed for taking care of expenses 50-50 each. But then he started torturing mentally by drinking everyday in home, shouting and abusing her.
She came back to parents place. Then also he asked half salary first. And then asked complete salary. And the demands kept changing like 50/75/100 percent.
Is this act of him punishable?

No, there is no crime committed by the husband while demanding salary or part thereof from his wife.

However, committing any sort of cruelty is crime.

Yes, such demands is not a punishable offence. But the demand and the abberations related, constitutes marital crelty and domestic violence. Your sister can initiate appropriate action in her best judgment.
