This has been telecated in the evening news, with interviews of the head of the school and the students of both communities.

We cannot be made to worship Gandhi.

How many of us have read his autobiography and how many of us follow what he preached? The so called representatives of whichever party they may belong to live a most luxurious life, most of them have criminal background and derisively laugh at Gandhi. Yet, we, the Aam Admi is told to follow Gandhi.

Gandhi has been made into an icon. Any body who speaks against him is called a "traitor". I suggest that Minoo Masani's book on Gandhi be read to disabuse our mind to a certain extent.

But boycott is for the different reasons. Either photo should be removed for all.

Photo of Gandhi with raised hand in show of blessing adorns every government office. Heard long ago.

It signifies to pay Rs.5 as bribe. Rupee devalued. Pay now Rs.500.

Recently, reopening of certain mills under National Textile Mills Corporation took place in Mumbai. Huge ads in national newspapers, both English and vernacular, and banners were splashed on the behalf of the Maran, Textile Minister, paid for by Government. Photographs of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Maran adorned the ads/banners.

Now hold your breath. photograph of Karunanidhi too was splashed. It is mind boggling as to how this man is connected with reopening of mills in Mumbai. If this CM is important and connected with the event, then what wrongs have the other 27 CMs done?

Let us get the answer. Maran is Textile Minister. Karunanidhi is CM all right. More importantly, he is Maran's UNCLE.

"Bhagwan Birsa Munda" is designated as Gandhi before Gandhi in jharkhand. Now naxals have threatened his heirs and asking levy from them. They are living under fear.

Einsteinian is reported to have said about Gandhi that the next generation will not believe that such a man walked this earth.

How wrong that great scientist was? Even the present generation does not believe that he existed.

By the way, his theory of relativity that revolutionalized the science thought, is known to have contributed to the development of atom bomb. He was a JEW but his theory has not been renounced either by the Muslim world or the Nazis who hated Jews.

" He was a JEW but his theory has not been renounced either by the Muslim world or the Nazis who hated Jews." Renouncing anything depend upon what suits them most.

 Mr. Vasudevan's comments

Every citizen of India (class or religion apart) will adore Mahatma Gandhi

is wide of the mark. A microscopic minority may, but, the great majority talks derisively of him. He is bread and butter of ruling class. That is all. With the spread of education, all the people can't be fooled all the time by some of the people. We have started using the touchstone of logic to weigh them.

Those who are seen flocking at "rallies" are paid henchmen. The fervour is gone for ever.

Off course all the people flocking at "rallies" are paid henchmen. In the past party's were bearing all the expenses of it's candidates, now candidates who are capable to bear all the expenses, are getting tickets.

Now Houston has a Mahatma Gandhi district

Tue, Jan 26 05:29 PM

A part of southwest Houston, Texas, home to a large number of South Asians, including Indians, has been officially renamed Mahatma Gandhi district to honour the leader on his 141st birth year.

An ethnic conclave, Hillcroft was renamed this month, fulfilling the seven-year long demand of over 100,000 strong Indian-American populations living in the Greater Houston area.

City Mayor Annise Parker announced the change of name along with Consul General of India in Houston, Sanjiv Arora.

Officials of the India Culture Centre have been working relentlessly for renaming the area that is popularly known as "Little India" due to the high concentration of south Asian shops and restaurants.

"Persistence alone paid off in the end as it was just getting nowhere, till the culture center and business leaders settled for adding the signs designating it a district, a USD 10,000 expense," India Culture Centre Spokesperson Manisha Mehta said.

Renaming the Hillcroft area required 75 per cent of commercial property owners on a street to sign a petition in its support, according to the municipal law. Only then the City Council can consider the change of the name.

But Indians earlier failed to gather required number of signs as it was difficult to agree the non-south Asians there.

The project was proposed during the tenure of former Mayor Bill White as the Indian Culture Centre and Indian merchants in the area wanted to rename Hillcroft Avenue to Mahatma Gandhi Avenue.

It was a moment of joy for the Indian-Americans in Houston as the change in name brings a feeling of recognition and they hope renaming the area would attract more tourists.
