It is a repeated query. A reply is given in expert's column.

According to the Notaries Act, 1952 in India, a notary is required to preserve their records for a period of five years as the certificate of practice issued to a notary is valid for five years and can be renewed for subsequent five-year terms.

What is the context for this query?

6 -7 years back an agreement has been done, and now matter is in court. Original agreement is with Opposite party and not ready to accept such agreement. We went to notery,he says i can come in court to give statement but said agreement copies i destroy. Thats why inquired about the duration.

If the notary public is willing and ready to give evidence based on the attestation he made then his witness evidence will be of great use to you, otherwise the notary is right that he doesn't have to preserve the records beyond five years.
