Me and My husband rented a room at Powai on 15 th May( We joined IITb as post doc student then). given deposit of 50k with added monthly advance rent of 15k. agreement said we should not vaccate the room before 6 mnth. From the very 1st rain that room got flooded due to celing leakage, and after repeated request , room owner denied to replair it. My husband stayed there for 2 month (total 30 k rent paid) with that condition.But we both got Govt job in West Bengal immidiately. I left early, near the end of 2mnth my husband informed then, he is leaving that room, and the room was not in living condition. He asked no deposit return, just another month to keep our belongings. as he is leaving in hurry, he alone couldn't tk all the bags. Son of the house owner then assaulted my husband, and asked for another 6 month rent otherwise he will break the lock. Verbally abused him for 2 days, and threatend to beat him up, if he let anybody know about the condition of the room. My husband stayed there in that flooded room for 2 days to convince him, but in vein. finally he locked that room and came to wb to join his new job. We still have luggage there and we will go there around end of this month to collect that , then we will hand over. What legal coverage we can have if we found door is unlocked and and bags are stolen, and he again abuse us, and extort about money???
