RTI Act is the sanjeevani for the poor: Deepak Sandhu 15 Apr, 2013 The Society for Media and Social Development organised a two-day seminar on 'Eight years of Right to Information Act and role of civil society' in association with Media Information and Communication Centre of India on the 14th and 15th of April, 2013. The function was held at the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith. Ms Deepak Sandhu, the Information Commissioner at the Central Information Commission (CIC) gave the inaugural address in which she compared the RTI Act with 'sanjeevani'. She said that with the active performance of NGOs and civil society, the RTI Act could become effective for the poor. Cautioning against the misuse of the Act, she pointed to the need to select appropriate questions to get required information. The seminar was was also addressed by deputy registrar of Banaras Hindu University ShyamNarayan, lawyer Ashok Sehgal, former Information Commissioner at the CIC Mr OP Kejriwal amongst others.
