Time limit for criminal case of fraud

Esteemed Lawyers,

I am aware that a civil suit can be brought in within 3 years in case of agreement of sale is not honoured.

Can a criminal case of fraud or FIR filed with local police, be also brought in within 3 years or can it be done after 3 years to recover deposit money? Is there  a time limit for filing FIR for fraud?

Thanks

Hi,

The matter is sale of agreement was not honoured and the money taken as advance was NOT returned back despite several requests.

The seller stopped all communication and now buyer has bought in a civil court. There is one week left for 3 years since agreement of sale signed. So the question was can a criminal case for fraud or police FIR need to be lodged in the next week or can that be done later on.

thanks
