After FIR what is the next step for divorce

One of friends sister married in 2000 has recently filed a complaint aganist her husband for physical and mental harrassement. From begining things were not good between them, she as tortured and not given enough freedom to go out or to make calls to her parents. Recently they moved to separate house but before leaving, her in-laws have taken her signature on document of the things which she is moving with. Later she released that things are still with in-laws, when questioned she was asked to keep silence. Frustrated with the things, last week with the help of neighbour she went to police station along with the kids and has filed an FIR against her husband. On interogation husband did agree and have returned all her belongings. Now girl is in her parents place, she wants to file for divorce with compensation. She is well educated but have 2 kids to support. Will she be able to get a divorce and compensation? In this kind of situation what will be the next best step.

Dear Ramesh,

As per your query, there is no serious allegations against the husband; almost all the allegations are against the 'in-laws':

and in my suggestion by considering th facts  : :  Marriage took place in 2000, having two kids, and she is well educated and further more "Recently they moved to separate house " it better try to invlove elders of both family and resolve the issues in between them and start to live in the separate house as stated.

This has been done many a times, now the girl is concerned about her own safety and also about her kids. Its not only in-laws even husband doesnt support her. They did move because the boy was declined from the property so he moved out.

The bane of most problems is well educated, financially independent and liberation from tradition - some good some bad.

Concomitant  -  Total breakdown of joint family system. Forget about joint, even own family is breaking down.
