It is better to buy  stamp paper in the name of property owner/landlord for future course of law if needed.

First and main thing is, whenever u hav rental agreement u should buy at least Stamp Paper of Rs.100. And The Owner's name should be written on stamp paper.

Rs.20/- stamp paper is suffucient for a rental period less than 1 year. if the rental or lease period is more than 1 year you should write on the stamp paper as per the value provided by state registration laws and the registering such document is compulsory otherwise the deed will have no legal effect. Stamp paper can be purchased in names of the owner or tenant, that dosent matter.

You are a landlord or tenant.

The stamp paper may also be in the name of the Advocate who identifies the parties to the agreement.
