entering attendance in a case

after receiving summons how does a respondent (in person) enters his attendance ? does he need to sign somewhere ?

On the first hearing he can convey to the judge that he will appear party-in-person to defend his case.. the judge will take note of that on the file.  Thats enough.

To add to what Venkat said, Instead of making oral submission, file a simple application mentioning that the party would appear in person. The application would set the records straight.
