No you can not do correction in Pune
First take easy approach go to same office where name entry took place or their back office and ask officer if they can do correction , certain powers some officer have but this thing should be done immediately don't wait means if you go within days then this can be done at clerical level only
If they are not ready or time is over then only option is to go for gazette notification for change in name.
Whenever birth or death certificate comes first thing person need to check is proper name in it and date ,if wrong immediately on that day itself person has to go and bring to notice of officer who can do clerical changes if he has powers to do so

Well advised, agree with the advice from expert Madhu.
How the mistake happened?
You can refer the respective instructions from the act / rules and may proceed accordingly.
Can try to take orders from court if the department does not agree. However, the process would be lengthy and costly with uncertain results.

Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 provides for correction or cancellation of
entry in the register. For this purpose, it has to be proved to the satisfaction of the Registrar that any relevant entry is erroneous in form or in substance (etc.). Even then, the original entry is not to be deleted or altered and a marginal entry is to be made. Rule 11 then deals with specific procedure to be followed. It does not seem to be a case of any formal error but the entries seem to be erroneous in substance…….if erroneous at all. For this purpose sub-rule (4) specifically provides for declaration by two credible persons having knowledge of the facts of the case. Further, the Registrar may before arriving at the satisfaction like to give
opportunity to show cause to the mother or the persons who had given the report earlier.
Rule 11 of Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2000 provides for uniform rule which applies to all types of corrections including date of birth and supply of certified copy. Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2000 requires convincing proof by the Registrar and provides for elaborate procedure for effecting corrections under section 15 of the Act.
