Adoption query

(Querist) 11 August 2024 This query is : Resolved
A number of children have become orphans in Wayanad where the natural disaster took place. A couple of my friends don't have children. Can they adopt a child? Among them, the husband is 62 years and the wife is 52 years, so will there be any age bar for adoption

The adoptive child must be below the age of 15 years. If the biological parents are not alive the Government through the Social Welfare Department may give (issue orders) adoption.

There are different age criteria for different kind of people like Single Mother, Single Father and Couple.

Since you are asking specifically for Couple, inter-alia, the age criteria for married couple is that the combined age of the prospective adoptive parents should be less than 90 years. In the case you are referring, the combined age is more than 90. Therefore they cannot adopt.

There is a specific procedure to be followed for which you needs to be in touch with CARA - Central Adoption Resource Authority.
