in a Civil Appeal Suit against the ex-parte judgment, can the respondents who remained absent and suddenly enter into suit & present their arguments ?

If the respondents were set exparte in the appeal suit then they may have to file a set aside petition to set aside the exparte order after which when the exparte order is set aside, then the respondents would be allowed to present their side arguments and not before that
